Ketamine and Antidepressants
Most antidepressants are compatible with ketamine therapy \u2014 with a few exceptions worth knowing.
Common antidepressants and ketamine
- SSRIs / SNRIs — typically continued without modification.
- Bupropion — typically continued.
- Mirtazapine — typically continued.
- Lamotrigine — may blunt response; some clinicians adjust dose around session days.
- MAOIs — uncommon today; requires careful coordination because of BP interactions.
- Tricyclics — typically continued with cardiac monitoring.
What not to do
Do not stop antidepressants on your own to 'prepare' for ketamine. Abrupt discontinuation has its own risks.
