Medically reviewed by: Pending medical review(draft)Last updated: June 6, 2026Evidence: Clinical practice; published case literature

Common antidepressants and ketamine

  • SSRIs / SNRIs — typically continued without modification.
  • Bupropion — typically continued.
  • Mirtazapine — typically continued.
  • Lamotrigine — may blunt response; some clinicians adjust dose around session days.
  • MAOIs — uncommon today; requires careful coordination because of BP interactions.
  • Tricyclics — typically continued with cardiac monitoring.

What not to do

Do not stop antidepressants on your own to 'prepare' for ketamine. Abrupt discontinuation has its own risks.
