Understanding Ketamine Treatment Frequency
Frequency is set by response, not formula.
Induction
The standard induction series is 6 sessions, usually delivered 2–3 times per week over 2–3 weeks. This pattern is associated with the strongest acute response in TRD research.
Maintenance
After induction, most patients move to maintenance dosing. Intervals are individualized — every 2 weeks for some, every 4–6 weeks for others, based on how long the previous session's benefit lasts.
Tapering
Some patients eventually space sessions further apart or pause maintenance altogether, especially when paired with strong integration and lifestyle support. Others benefit from ongoing maintenance.

Frequently asked questions
Why so many sessions up front?+
Concentrated dosing during induction appears to produce stronger and more durable response than spaced sessions in most studies.
What if I respond after 2 sessions — do I still need 6?+
Most clinicians still recommend completing induction to consolidate response. Discuss with your prescriber.
Is lifelong maintenance required?+
No. Many patients reduce frequency or pause. Some need ongoing maintenance. It's individualized.
