Quick answer
What's the single most useful thing to know?
The session is mostly inward. Plan for silence, an eye mask, and a soft landing afterward — not for conversation or productivity.

Frequently asked questions

What does a ketamine session actually feel like?+

Most patients describe a soft, dreamlike state with relaxed body sensations, time distortion, and emotional or visual experiences. Intensity scales with dose and modality. You remain breathing and reflexive — never unconscious at therapeutic doses.

How long does a session last?+

IV: 40-50 minutes infusion plus 30-60 minutes recovery. IM: 30-45 minutes peak plus recovery. Sublingual/KAP: 60-90 minutes plus integration time. Plan 2-3 hours at the clinic.

Will I have a 'psychedelic experience'?+

Sub-anesthetic ketamine produces dissociative and sometimes psychedelic-feeling states — altered perception of self, time, and surroundings. Intensity varies by dose, modality, setting, and individual. KAP sessions are designed for stronger experiences; medical-model infusions tend toward milder dissociation.

Can I talk during a session?+

Physically yes, but most people prefer silence with eyes closed or behind an eye mask. Staff will check in with brief questions. Plan to talk less than you might expect — the experience tends to be inward.

What if I have a bad experience?+

Acute distress during a session is uncommon but real. Trained clinics use grounding language, repositioning, and (rarely) anti-anxiety medication. Tell the staff immediately if you feel overwhelmed — they're there for exactly this.

Will I remember the session?+

Usually yes, though memory can be fragmented and dreamlike. Insights often feel vivid in the moment and harder to articulate later — journaling immediately after helps.

What should I wear?+

Comfortable, layered clothing you can rest in. No restrictive items. Bring an eye mask if your clinic doesn't provide one.

Can I bring music?+

Most clinics provide curated playlists or let you bring your own. Music significantly shapes the experience — see the music center for recommendations. Choose ambient, vocal-light, instrumental tracks.

Will I feel sick?+

Nausea is the most common side effect, particularly with sublingual/oral routes. Most clinics offer anti-nausea premedication (ondansetron). Light eating 4-6 hours pre-session helps.

What happens immediately after?+

Grogginess, mild dissociation for 30-60 minutes, then gradual return to baseline. Most people feel reflective or quiet rather than energetic. Plan a soft landing — no work meetings, no driving, no major decisions.
