Default mode network (DMN)
A brain network active during self-referential thought.

The DMN is implicated in rumination, self-narrative, and mind-wandering. Hyperactivity of the DMN is associated with depression. Psychedelic-adjacent compounds, including ketamine at certain doses, transiently reduce DMN connectivity.
