The brain region most consistently implicated in ketamine's antidepressant action.
The medial and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex regulate mood, cognitive control, and emotional appraisal. Depression is associated with reduced PFC synaptic density; ketamine reverses these deficits in preclinical models within hours.
